RE: Safer Streets Ahead- Amador County Public Health Launches Traffic Safety
Program
Amador County, CA — Amador County Public Health is announcing the launch of its
Comprehensive Traffic Safety Program, aimed at reducing the number of people killed or
injured in vehicle-related crashes.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety
(OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This program
will support both evidence-based and best-practice strategies to make local roadways
safer for everyone, with emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian safety, and distracted driving
prevention efforts for both teens and older adults. Efforts will include education,
community outreach, data-driven enforcement, and collaboration with local partners.
“This grant allows us to take proactive steps to prevent serious injuries and save lives,” said
Joanne Hasson, Amador County Public Health Director, “We are committed to creating
safer streets for children, families, and all road users in Amador County.”
Key activities supported by the grant may include:
• Pedestrian and bicycle safety education
• Child passenger safety outreach for families and youth
• Targeted education for older adults and teens to prevent distracted driving
• Community presentations, safety materials, and public awareness campaigns
• Data-informed support for law enforcement and traffic safety partners
The program will run through September 30, 2026, aligning with statewide efforts to reduce
serious traffic injuries and fatalities.
