Businesses that generate and manage hazardous waste are required to report the type, quantity, storage practices, and treatment methods associated with all hazardous waste generated on-site. All hazardous waste must be disposed of at a permitted Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF). While many hazardous wastes can be recycled or reused, certain types must be incinerated at licensed facilities or disposed of in specially engineered, lined landfills in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Unified Program permits are required for hazardous waste generators and for the treatment of small volumes of specific hazardous wastes (tiered treatment permits) A Cal-EPA registration number is required for all hazardous waste generators.
