Getting a Library Card
Amador County Library will extend borrowing privileges to all residents of the State of California as well as to those persons who are temporarily residing in Amador County. In order to borrow materials, persons must be in possession of an Amador County library card.
To apply for a library card, please fill out our application and provide photo ID and proof of CA address.
Items that can be used as proof of residency are:
- A valid California driver's license with a current CA address
- A valid driver's license, government ID, passport, or other photo identification with a current utility bill or other currently postmarked piece of mail with the patron's name and local address.
Non-residents, short-term residents, or patrons without proof of local residency are eligible for a temporary library card with limited access: valid for 3 months, 5 item limit. If a patron with a temporary card establishes permanent residency in California, proof of address must be provided to staff and the library card will be upgraded to full borrowing privileges.
All patrons under the age of 18 must have a parent, legal guardian, or other adult sign their application. The parent, legal guardian, or other adult assumes responsibility for all materials borrowed by the minor.
If your library card is lost or stolen, report it immediately. Replacement cards cost $1.00.
Loan Periods and Limits
All Amador County Library materials have a 21-day loan period. New materials and DVDs are limited to 5 items each.
The California Reference and Mining Collection do not circulate.
Two renewals are allowed per item, unless another patron has a hold on the item. Materials may be renewed in person, online or by phone.
All items can be returned to any Amador County Library branch.
Overdues/Damaged Materials
Amador County Library does not charge fines for overdue items. Items returned more than 60 days from the due date will be considered lost and the library cardholder will be charged the retail price of the item.
Patrons are responsible for library materials damaged through unintentional or intentional neglect and will be charged the retail price of the item.
Accounts with more than 3 overdue library items or outstanding charges of $10 or more will be suspended. All borrowing privileges will be revoked until the patron’s account balance is under $10.
