Earn a High School Diploma with Career Online High School - Free!
The Amador County Library partners with Career Online High School (COHS) to provide free enrollment to a limited number of eligible adults in an online program that leads to an accredited high school diploma, with an optional career certificate.
✏️ What is Career Online High School?
COHS is a free online educational program. The Amador County Library acts as a local partner that helps connect eligible residents to the program and provides guidance during the application process.
Career Online High School is a self-paced, online program designed for adults who did not complete high school. Through COHS, learners can:
- Earn a fully accredited high school diploma (not a GED)
- Complete coursework online
- Receive an additional optional career certificate in a high-demand field
- Access academic coaching and library support
Most learners complete the program within 12-18 months, depending on pace and transfer credits.
📋 Requirements:
- Must be at least 19 years or older
- Must live in Amador County
- Must have an Amador County Library card in good standing. Need a library card?
Begin Your Journey Today!
- Complete the Program Interest Form.
- Take the online self-assessment.
- Assessments will be processed within 7 business days to determine program eligibility.
- The library will contact you to complete the COHS prerequisite course.
- Upon course completion (at least 70% passing grade or higher within 2 weeks), the library will contact you to schedule an interview and discuss enrollment into the full program.

- What is the difference between a GED and a high school diploma?
- A high school diploma is earned by completing coursework through an accredited school, while a GED is earned by passing a series of exams. Some employers and colleges prefer a diploma, which is why Career Online High School offers an accredited high school diploma, not a GED. Additionally, COHS gives students the benefit of earning a career certificate and completing additional job preparation documents and training.
