About Flu
- Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses
- Flu can cause mild to severe illness
- Most experts believe that flu viruses spread mainly by tiny droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze, or talk
- The first and most important step in preventing flu is to get a flu vaccine each year.
What can individuals do to prepare for flu season?
- Get flu vaccinations for all family members
- Create a Continuity of Operations Plan for your organizations that includes response to pandemic influenza and keep it updated.

Where to get your flu shot?
Flu shots are available October - March of each year at most local pharmacies.
Public Health offers Flu Vaccinations during our normal immunization clinics on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Call or email for specifics at 209-223-6407 or publichealth@amadorcounty.gov.
Flu Prevention
- Get Vaccinated
- Hand washing with soapy water for 20 -30 seconds can help prevent illness.
- Be sure to help small children in order to make sure their hands are properly cleaned.
- Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Cover your sneezes and coughs by sneezing/coughing into your sleeve.
