What is Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid Program. This is a public health insurance program that provides needed health care services for low-income people including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low-income people with specific disease such as tuberculosis, breast cancer or HIV/AIDs.

How Do I Apply for Medi-Cal?
Applications for the Medi-Cal can be requested by Phone, In-Person, via US Mail or online.

Who Qualifies for Medi-Cal?
Families of any size are eligible if they meet income guidelines.
The following persons may be eligible:
- 65 or older
- Blind
- Disabled
- Under 21
- Pregnant
- In a skilled nursing or intermediate care home
- On refugee status for a limited time, depending how long you have been in the United States
- A parent or caretaker relative of an age eligible child
- Have been screened for breast and/or cervical cancer (Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program)
- Foster Youth Can Maintain Health Coverage Until Age 26
If you are enrolled in one of the following programs, you can also get Medi-Cal:
- CalFresh
- SSI/SSP
- CalWorks (AFDC)
- Refugee Assistance
- Foster Care or Adoption Assistance Program
Managed Care Plans
When you first qualify for Medi-Cal, you are covered under Medi-Cal Fee-for-Service. Depending on the county where you live, you may have to choose a health plan within 30 days. If you do not choose a health plan within 30 days, Medi-Cal will choose a health plan for you.
